8 1583. Expl. Dept. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}2/MA. 11th., January 1933. A.Limb Esq., Messrs. C.C.Wakefield & Co.Ltd., Wakefield House, 30 & 32 Cheapside, LONDON. E.C.2. Dear Limb, We have just examined the 25HP. car which Lappin uses, after it has completed 7,000 miles on the treated XL Oil. Our mechanics did not know that any special oil had been used, and when asked to give an opinion, whether the condition of the engine looked any different to one which had been run on standard oil they said it looked about the same, but a good sample for absence of sludge and carbon. My own personal observations were that there appeared to be less sludge and carbon, but of course 7,000 miles is a comparatively short distance and even with the standard oil we do not get much trouble. The conditions were not such that it was obviously manifest that the engine had been using a different oil. The amount of carbon on the tops of the pistons and head was not excessive, but in this case it is not possible to make a statement on one engine. I attach herewith, copy of the laboratory report on this oil. We are also running an Aero engine on this, and shall be able to give you further information shortly. | ||
