Waller - Head of Chateauroux}/6/JAB.9.4.37, the following are our answers to the queries in your memo: I. There was no faulty delivery. II. There was a very bad leak from the single pump and also a leak from the double pump. There was a very strong smell of petrol fumes in the car. We considered the leak from the single pump to be so bad as to be dangerous from a fire point of view. (petrol was ejected through the small hole in the body of the pump and found its way on to the exhaust pipe). It was certainly not advisable to continue running the car with the pumps in the above condition. The 3 diaphragms which we dismantled and handed to you were found to be the cause of the leakage.
