BY3-P7.3.23.

TOOL BAG FOR 20HP CHASSIS.

Referring to BJ16/H27223, the cost of the bag in question is £1.2.6. The reason why the bag was supplied was that Mr Royce recommended that we should supply a bag of this description to carry small tools, his reason being that, generally speaking, the small tools were inaccessible and not to be found in the type of tool box which is arranged on the average car.

With reference to your remark that the Coachbuilders provide tool accommodation, none of the cars we have at the Works have reasonable accommodation at all for tools, and the Experimental Department in this respect are in agreement with R.{Sir Henry Royce} that the bag, since it only carries small tools, is most desirable. We can also extend this remark to Sales demonstration cars which have been at the Works, as Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} informs me that most of these that he has seen have/reasonable tool accommodation, that is, such that small tools can be found readily.

R's recommendations were based upon his knowledge of what had been provided in the way of tool accommodation on any cars that he had used at W.W.

We would like to point out that it is not proposed to cram the bag full of tools. You will note that special strips, sewn together to accommodate different tools have been arranged for on the sides of the bag, a few other tools would be laid loose in the bottom, under which scheme all the small spanners would be available in one kit and would not have to be searched for in the depths of a box underneath the seat or on the footboard.

In the meantime we have stopped any further orders for tool bags, but we shall have approximately 250 of these in hand, either finished or partly finished.
