Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} TEST October 18th/20th, 1934 ------------------------------------------ As requested, I confirm conversation with you today on the above. Considerable trouble has been experienced with this car, involuntary stops having taken place which would be disastrous in the hands of a customer. In the first place, after driving about 50 miles the rear near-side brake seized up. It was certainly noted, in driving the car at this time, that the amount of clearance seemed to be small, as the brake pedal movement was much below the standard. Having, allowed a considerable time for the brake to cool down, and also eased off the brake lever, etc., the car again became runable. The groans and grunts from the back brakes were very bad, and one felt ashamed to use them. Attention was given to the brakes by N., who reported that the cause of the seizure was lack of movement, the throttle toggle mechanism coming in contact with the boss of the Bijur oil feed. A written report on this matter by N. has been handed to GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} On running the car after attention by N. it was noticed that the brakes, although free from groans and grunts, had, if anything, above the normal brake pedal movement, and there were occasional signs of brake 'judder'. With running this became worse, and any adjustment to the servo mechanism did not improve same - in fact the adjustments as they were were about right. [Signature] | ||
