DELCO-REMY CORPORATION ANDERSON, INDIANA [Handwritten]: r6099. PLEASE ADDRESS REPLY TO THE ATTENTION OF Eng.Dept. April 25th, 1934. [Handwritten]: WST Mr. W.A. Robotham, Rolls-Royce Ltd., Derby, England. Dear Mr. Robotham: In reply to your letter of April 13th: 1. We do not dynamically balance all our armatures, but do balance certain designs. The kind of balancing depends upon the type of mounting, and the speed at which the generator is driven. 2. Your figure of 120° C. is correct. This is measured with a thermometer 1/32" from the commutator, the generator being run on a laboratory test stand at a speed which gives maximum heating. We use no special form of insulation on the armature, as our tests on cars show that the generator never reaches the same temperature as is shown in the laboratory tests. The temperature on the car is, of course, controlled by ventilation, and also by the fact that the generator does not run continually at its point of maximum heating. 3. I am enclosing performance curve number 4064, covering the LaSalle generator. Very truly yours, DELCO-REMY CORPORATION [Signature] Chief Engineer. HDD:R Encl.
