EFC. from Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} C. to By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} X3398 Wd{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}2/NJ31.3.25. Peto & Radford Batteries. I attach hereto copy of letter from these people dated 30th inst. regarding the sealing of the cells of their batteries. I recollect that these people raised the question of the sealing compound not being allowed to run down between the cells and we insisted that our specifications (clause 12) must be followed. Prior to our submitting the specifications to Peto & Radford, the clause referred to (clause 12) was in the case of specification 301 for 40/50 HP. battery (EFC1/T8.3.24) amended to read as follows:- "The cells should be sealed over their tops "only, with the exception that the sealing compound "should be allowed to run down between the centre "cells where the bicycle spokes are situated, so as "to cover these up and protect them from acid." This amendment does not apply to Specification 302 for 20 HP. battery (EFC2/T24.10.24), as there are no bicycle spokes in that battery. I shall be glad to have By's ruling with regard to this matter.
