4009 To Yl. from Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}17/MH.{M. Huckerby}15.12.39. With reference to the letter from the R.A.C., this appears to be an astonishing state of affairs. We can produce evidence that the chassis 14.B.V. was fitted with a French body by Vanvooren's. The body is now at Chateauroux. Since the body which was made in France is in France, and the chassis which was made in England is in England, and nobody appears to want us to pay duty on either, we cannot see what the argument is about. When we bring the body over into England we can supply a copy of the original invoice and prove that duty has been paid on it. We therefore do not see that we can be charged duty on it a second time. Because the British Customs have made a mistake in accepting a chassis and filling in the papers as if it was a chassis and body, I do not see that they can saddle us with their problems of accountancy. Are they prepared to wait for proof that the body is in France until we bring it to the coast to refit it to the chassis? At the moment unless they are prepared to go to Chateauroux it is difficult to prove the whereabouts of the body. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
