To CJ. from R.{Sir Henry Royce} c. to BJ. PN.{Mr Northey} HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} H3436 R3/M18.8.24. RE. EXHAUST HEATED THROTTLES. X.2768 X.3436 X.4390 We are gradually making this system universal on our cars. PN.{Mr Northey} doubts if it is an advantage over water heated throttles. Probably there is little or no advantage with good fuel in summer weather, but Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}, myself, and others, have definitely thought the extra heating a decided advantage in winter, and with poor fuels. We will ask Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} to repeat his comparative experiments either with low temperature, or with a percentage of paraffin mixed with the petrol. We do not believe that the temperature even with the exhaust heat is sufficiently high under very cold conditions in Central Europe, even with the standard grade of petrol. No doubt Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} will be able to make comparative tests which will clearly shew whether or not this is advantageous. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
