Report page detailing issues with obtaining regular sparking and the unsuitability of a specific spark gap for general use.

-2- Contd.

2.0 mm and sometimes the sparks appear much more purple.

The difficulty in obtaining regular sparking
may be due to slight roughness of the surface of the
electrodes. Perfect smoothness could not well be main-
tained owing to the burning of the sparks.

In the test of spark-lengths obtainable for
various primary capacities, a set of readings was also taken
on the annular gap (report AB.31 23.11.21).

Of these, neither the possible nor regular spark
lengths, seemed to show any particular relation to the
condenser capacities.

The gap does not therefore at present seem suitable
for general use.
