1091 To Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} from Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}4/JH.7.2.40. 10 H.P. ROVER CAR. It would be very useful if you would let me have your views on this car from two aspects - (1) Your opinion of the car with regard to the accommodation it provides, its comfort, visibility, facilities for parking, luggage carrying capacity. (2) Whether you think its performance is adequate and whether it maintains its "tune" satisfactorily. I have owned a number of Rover cars, and I find that they require attention at frequent intervals if they are to be kept in decent running order. I consider that the plugs should not require touching more frequently than every 10,000 miles. If the car is driven normally, brakes should not require adjustment more often than every 5,000 miles. None of the rationalised engines we are at present running require decarbonising under 25,000 miles even when run on Pool petrol. It will be interesting to see how the Rover compares with this figure. The oil filtration should be such that the crankcase should not want draining under 25,000 miles. Our present filters on B.V., if used properly, will keep the oil in a condition as new for this distance. Tappet adjustments on high power engines have shown themselves to be unnecessary up to 20,000 miles. It will be interesting to see the relative behaviour of the Rover. If one has not to do minor adjustments oneself one is apt to overlook how irritating they are to the owner-driver. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
