Re: FAILURE OF FP.{F. Potts}1855 STUD FOR WING STAY AND CROSS MEMBER

As we have had a certain number of failures of the dropped front cross member as fitted between the headlamps, do you not think that it would be advisable that when we have to send a car to the Coachbuilders to remove and refit the front wings when a failure of this type of stud has occurred, we should, at the same time as fitting a set of the R.2644 stronger type of studs, also take the opportunity of fitting the strengthened type dropped front cross member, as per Depot Sheet Hd.{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy}30I to those cars which are still under Guarantee.

We mention this because the most expensive part of the job is the removal and fitting of the front wings. For instance, on chassis B.174.GA we had to have the front wings removed last October, owing to the failure of several of the FP.{F. Potts}1855 studs. The car was sent to us recently and we again had to have the front wings removed, owing to the failure of the non strengthened type front dropped cross member. Please refer to our Owner's Complaint Report No P.8I.
