RE. THRUST ON NEW DEPARTURE NO. 216 BEARING TO REPLACE THRUST BEARING NOW USED ON CONDOR ENGINE.

We have carried out thrust tests on New Departure No. 216 bearing which has two rows of .562 dia. balls - 18 per row.
The first series of tests were similar to the tests applied to Condor thrust sch. DES. 247. The bearing stood up so well that it was decided to give it two further tests of 10 hrs. duration in each direction. The bearing at the completion of these tests was examined - the condition being excellent. The results are as follows :-
Wear in forward direction .001
" " reverse " .002

FORWARD TESTS. INITIAL FLOAT .0015.
Load on lever, lbs. | Thrust load, lbs. | Speed of rig. (r.p.m.) | Time run hrs. | Max. temp. of oil °C | Increase in float
640 | 3,840 | 2250 | 1 | 80 | .0005
740 | 4,440 | 2250 | 1 | 62 | .001
840 | 5,040 | 2250 | 1 | 61 | .001
Time run - 3 hrs.

REVERSE TESTS. INITIAL FLOAT .002
640 | 3,840 | 2250 | 1 | 83 | Nil
740 | 4,440 | 2250 | 1 | 71 | Nil.
840 | 5,040 | 2250 | 1 | 65 | Nil.
Time run - 3 hrs.

Tests of 10 hrs. duration in each direction.
FORWARD TEST. (Total increase in float .001)
740 | 4,440 | 2250 | 10 | 74 | .001

REVERSE TEST. (Total increase in float .002)
740 | 4,440 | 2250 | 10 | 79 | .002.

Total hrs. run - 26.
