UNPOLISHED STAYBRIGHT SHUTTERS.

With reference to BY1/G20.9.30., it may be remembered that we attempted to produce unpolished staybright radiator shutters some little time back. The attempt was not successful owing to corrosion taking place very quickly.
The corrosion was so bad that attempts were made to produce the shutters without touching them by hand, as finger marks produced staining and corrosion within 24 hours.
The Matt finish was produced by sand-blasting; emery dressing, and wire brushing.

We are not quite sure what the treatment is that you mean when you say that the shutter will be fitted in its descaled condition.

It would appear better and less costly, in view of our previous experience, to experiment with a few slats only to try and produce an untarnishable finish before producing whole sets of shutters. We are experimenting with a shutter that has been emery dressed and wire brushed only (not sand-blasted) as it is thought that the pitting caused by sand-blasting may possibly be the cause of the very rapid staining and corrosion which occurred in the previous attempts.
