HPS{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}/BI. 1200? BAKELITE In connection with tests carried out on an oil pump with Bakelite casing it was found that there was a tendency for the Bakelite to swell. In order to further investigate this, will you please arrange to carry out the following test? Specimens of various types of Bakelite material have been handed to HPS{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}/BI. It is suggested that these pieces, which have been measured initially, be immersed in an oil bath (Motorine "C") at 90°C for 100 hours, being withdrawn and measured at 20 hour intervals. The measurements will give an indication of any volumetric change which occurs, and will also indicate the direction of such dimensional changes - this being important in connection with the laminated types of material.
