contd :- -2- We have carried out tests with several kinds of tyre and tyre pressures. We have tried balloon, semi balloon, medium pressure and high pressure tyres. We have tried ranges of tyre pressures from 80 to 20 lbs. In our opinion the particular complaint which we are investigating is not influenced in the least by tyre pressure, balloon or semi balloon tyres. We agree that high pressure tyres bring up all sorts of other riding complaints which a customer may complain of, but this one particular complaint is not reduced by low pressure tyres. This has also been confirmed by Springfield. They have been through a whole series of tests on the Phantom springing and they maintain that their particular complaint is made worse by having low pressure tyres. From our results, we should not agree that it was worse, we should be inclined to say that owing to other irritating vibrations being absorbed by the low pressure tyres, the complaint stands out more clearly. From our tests on Silver Ghost cars, we should not say that the Silver Ghost, even without front wheel brakes, is free from it but it is very much reduced. We are arranging that DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}, CWB, and ourselves shall try several cars at Derby this week. We will also try and arrange that a set of low pressure tyres are fitted to CJ's car in order to confirm whether he can appreciate any improvement. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
