Bad crack found in the magnesium lower half crankcase of a Phantom III No. 11 Unit, causing oil leaks.

Hollingworth}1/BA.26.2.37. Phantom III No. 11 Unit. E.86979 Crankcase L.H. in Magnesium. When the above Unit was dismantled, a bad crack was found in the Crankcase lower half, which is in Magnesium, extending right through the bottom of the sump and giving rise to bad oil leaks. Herewith Ex.1.131 giving all particulars of the crack. The engine has completed 34 hours test bed running 12 hours of which were at full throttle, and has run 18,469 miles in 36-Ex.
