2697 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst.1/MA. February 13th., 1933. The S.U. Company, Eest Works, Bordesley Green Road, Adderley Park, Birmingham. For the attention of Mr.Skinner. Dear Sirs, With reference to our Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst.3/AD. of the 9th., inst., and our telephone conversation we have examined the problem more fully and find that the 8 amperes discharge only occurs when the petrol tap is turned off, and the ignition switch left on. It thus appears that the petrol pump works until a partial vacuum occurs on the petrol side of the diaphragm, holding the solenoid plunger midway thus allowing the windings to be in circuit with the contacts on. We can see no other explanation for the trouble as when the petrol tap is on no discharge is noted on the ammeter with the switch on and the engine stationary. Although this condition may not generally arise on chassis it is certainly a condition which should be accounted for, as this sort of thing generally happens with chassis in customers hands, i.e. the customer may carelessly turn off his petrol, and forget to switch off his ignition when leaving the car in the Garage. We should like to have your further views on this subject. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
