| 3. When it is known that reasonably good road holding at speed is required, the setting HP-SA and SR-SA may be employed. This setting represents the maximum permissible damping which may be obtained with standard dampers and should never be exceeded. The foregoing covers all the conditions likely to arise under normal circumstances and at least provides some degree of uniformity in regard to the various shock damper modifications carried out by the Repair Dept, Works, and Depots. Whenever shock dampers are modified in accordance with any of these recommendations, it is very desirable that the type letters quoted should be stamped on the shock damper casing in order to render subsequent identification easy. It is understood of course that special circumstances may arise which require different treatment to that outlined in this memo, but such cases are not susceptible to any degree of standardisation.
