Dear Sirs,

We thank you for your letter of the 23rd July.

We are willing to carry out a preliminary test on one of your exhaust silencers. We attach a blue print showing the layout of the exhaust system at present. We suggest that you make your silencer the same size as the large expansion box shown on this print.

The criterion of the efficiency of the silencer is its behaviour on the road, and therefore we propose to carry out the test on a car. We cannot form any opinion as to the principle employed from the sketch you have sent us and do suggest that in order to save unnecessary work by both parties it would be a distinct advantage if you could get your engineer to pay us a visit with the Chevrolet car to which the exhaust system is fitted, when we could discuss the test we are proposing to make.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED.
