Hollingworth}ÔNE :: ISOTTA-FRASCHINI :: ITALA :: LANCIA RAPID :: SCAT :: SPA :: etc. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS TIMING OF MAGNETO. — Slowly turn the engine by hand until the piston of cylinder No. 1 almost reaches the end of its compression stroke and exactly at the point corresponding to the maximum advance as fixed by the maker of the Engine. Turn the shaft of the magneto by hand, until the black indication line engraved on the gear wheel appears in the centre of the transparent disc on the aluminium cover of the magneto; — when the magneto lever is at full advance, the contact breaker must be in position (as regards the cams) to starts the opening of the contacts. — Then insert the shaft taking great care not to move either the engine or the magneto. It is advisable to adopt an elastic coupling joint. MAINTENANCE. — Lubrication of the magneto should not be too frequent (viz. about every 400 miles) and only a few drops of good fluid lubricating oil should be put in the oil receptacle from which it is automatically circulated to all parts requiring lubrication. On no account should the contact breaker be oiled. If the platinum discs become oily, the result is imperfect circuits, and consequent non-ignition, oil being a bad electrical conductor; the platinum discs, in this case, wear out rapidly. — Examine the surface of the distributor, removing any carbon deposit on the contacts. The carbon brushes should always slip freely in the sleeves and the contact surface must be smooth. Ascertain that the opening of the platinum discs is exactly 4/10 m/m using for this purpose the gauge mounted on the small spanner supplied with each Magneto. GUARANTEE. — Marelli Magnetos are guaranteed free from all constructional defects for 12 months. Any parts which should prove defective, will be replaced by the makers free of charge, if in their opinion the trouble is a result of faulty construction. — No responsibility will be taken in regard to any Magneto which is modified or repaired without the makers' approval.
