PROGRESS MEETING.

REPORT FOR JUNE 12th AT WHICH MR SWIFT, MR HIVES, MR WILLIS & BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} WERE PRESENT.

SECTION - DYNAMO SUSPENSION.

The screw for fixing the Suspension Bracket to the Lucas Dynamo was originally specified as E.13835, as used for the motor. We had overlooked, however, the fact that the Lucas carcass is made of cast iron, whilst our carcass is made of mild steel. We therefore require a longer screw and propose to use screw F.7341, in order to take advantage of the full length of the tapped hole. It was agreed that this alteration should be allowed. The screw could be locked by forcing the metal of the bracket into the slot in thehead of the screw.

SECTION - STARTING HANDLE BRACKET.

The standard lubricator composed of T.2542/3 had been omitted from the part list all along. It was proposed to add the parts in question - the List of Parts concerned being the Frame & Fittings. This alteration was also agreed to.

ENGINE SECTION - VALVES & FITTINGS.

In pre-war days the works had always produced a slight flat where the cotter hole runs through the stem of the valve. The reason for this having been done was that they found there was a tendency to produce an outwardly projecting burr, due to the action of the cotter. This prevented the valve from being removed for examination purposes.

It was agreed that the flat in question should be added to the extent of making the size measured across the valve at the end of the cotter hole .025" less than the standard dimension to the valve stem.

SECTION - PRIMERS.

Mr Swift had been asked to look into the question of the Primer Union fitting from the last conference. He agreed that the alteration suggested by the D.O. then was necessary and would improve the job. It was therefore agreed to make the modification in question, which consisted in removing chamfers from both the male and female components of
