X4221 Extracts from a letter from Mr. Royce, dated 26th.Feb. '22. La{L. A. Archer} Villa Mimosa, Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence, Par le Lavandou, Var. France, X.4219 X.4221 Ar.3922 [struck through] X.4426 X.2565. "We arrived quite fairly well but the weather was and had been very wet. It at once became excellent and has been so since. I was very surprised and pleased with this place. It is better than I had remembered. We have everything we need and are very comfortable and am beginning to feel much better and I think much more able to do some useful work - in fact, being better in health I imagine I am more intelligent! I can manage quite well here without a car until Hives comes out with the Goshawks. The roads to me are extremely bad, so much so that one would think they would smash anything. Just right for testing but not very pleasant. Fleck is here with the "Rocksavage" Car (this has a body which I think ugly in shape and finish). I have wired P.N. that I do not need a car and as if it is not wanted at Nice it may as well return to England as I understand a very new body is to be fitted. If it were found advisable Fleck might do some of the testing to the Goshawk. I am trying to have as little to do with cars and any other business but find it somewhat difficult. I am anxious to know the result of the tests of the Goshawk engine's vibration at very high speed. P.N. reports excellent improvements in holding the road and braking by the use of shock damper, of which the Hartford are those fitted. He also reports that the high speed fan hums and as he was not using it I suggested they tried it with three blades only." | ||
