C O P Y. LEY'S MALLEABLE CASTINGS COMPANY LTD. INTERNAL REPORT. LAB. NO.W.18. 1/5/34. AEP/MK.{R. E. B. Meade-King} LEPAZ BRAKE DRUMS. Results of Ferodo Tests on 12", 10" and 8" LEPAZ Morris Drums. The testing of these Drums was arranged with Mr. Field, Chief Engineer of Ferodo Ltd., but it became urgent to obtain some results from them and as Mr. Field was away in Italy I visited Ferodo Ltd., on Monday April 30th to collect what information I could. I met Mr. Humphreys their Sales Manager, who took me to the Test House where Mr. Billington, Chief Tester, gave me all the data obtained. They had only carried out tests on the 10" Drums as they had no 8" and 12" assemblies available. A copy of Mr. Billington's report to Mr. Humphreys in readiness for my visit is attached. It will be seen that this is simply a statement of facts and it is necessary to comment on the various points and compare the qualities with steel and cast iron in order to make the report illuminating. The following are notes which generally set out the position as given to me by Ferodo Ltd. (1). WEAR CHARACTERISTICS. (a) Similar to High Grade Cast Iron. (b) Takes a better surface in wear than High Grade Cast Iron. (c) Not quite so high a polish as steel. (2). COEFFICIENT OF FRICTION. (a) 0.380. (b) Very good. (c) Negligible 'fade' of 0.002. This is much superior to Cast Iron which 'fades' due to graphite working up. Contd. | ||
