86134. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} From Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst.6/MA.18.12.34. BENTLEY STARTER MOTOR. With the geared motor now being tested in the Experimental Dept., we have had difficulty due to the drive sticking in gear causing the motor to be revved up excessively before it disengages. We have tried out a modification to the Bendix sleeve and nut which has considerably improved matters the drive engaging and disengaging smartly without the objectionable whirr. The modification as shewn on sketchs EL30 and EL31 consists of a four start thread of increased angle helix on the Bendix nut and sleeve. We are accordingly modifying the motor on 5.B.IV. similarly for further extended tests. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst. | ||
