VALVES AND FITTINGS TO LOP E 100204 LEC 3222-3232-3305.

The valves were noisy throughout the mileage. The noise is not in any way connected with the valve springs. It was a general valve clatter. In our opinion they would not be passable for production. We had no trouble with loss of valve clearance. It was the reverse a slight increase of clearance took place.

CYLINDER HEAD LOP E 100681 - LEC 3222.

The valve seating were generally in a good condition. The exhaust seats showed slight hammering effects which would account for the increase of clearance. The valve guides had not worn appreciably. The rocker cover joint gave trouble with oil leaks. The cork gasket shrunk making the area of the joint very small at the extreme ends. The knurled nuts would not remain tight during the high speeds runs. Spring washers were fitted under the nuts with better results. We had no sign of local heating of the water in the cylinder head with the 20 water passages instead of 36. The joint washer, copper and asbestos gave no trouble.

CYLINDERS

The cylinder bores were in a very good condition, there was no sign of score marks, lubrication was on the heavy side.

DYNAMO & WATER PUMP DRIVE LOP E 100179.

The dynamo drive ran out of truth. The fabric couplings were not concentric. These couplings are a source of trouble in this respect. The water pump drive was satisfactory A bad water leak developed from the gland of the water pump the packing having deteriorated.

OIL PUMP & OIL RELIEF VALVE LOP E 100601 LEC 3346 & LEC 3320.

The oil pump was satisfactory in respect of quantity of oil delivered but when the oil was hot there were periods of gear rattle. The main oil relief valve was very
