TESTS OF FRONT WHEEL BRAKES.

On Monday, the 11th August, BJ. tried the London demonstration landaulet fitted with front wheel brakes, heavy axle and front springs 12% stronger than standard, namely, just as they will be delivered to customers, with the exception that the front springs were anchored the wrong way round - the shackle was put at the back instead of the front of the springs.

B.J. formed the opinion that the springing of this car was somewhat harsher at low speeds than with the ordinary standard springing without front wheel brakes.

The springs are stronger than are fitted to open touring cars on account of the extra weight of the landaulet body, which consist of nine leaves on the off and eight leaves on the near front springs.

Will Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} please inform B.J. whether the springs on the London demonstration landaulet are of the same type as will be standard on closed cars in future. There are ten leaves on both the off and near springs.

B.J. telegraphed the Works at 11 o'clock on Monday morning, as follows:-

"London demonstrating landaulet with front brakes heavy axle and twelve percent stronger springs not as good in some respects as present standard but sufficiently satisfactory to me Other officials trying it to-day Will then wire further Regret front spring shackles had to be reversed as possibly this might make considerable difference stop Maddocks remaining till we hear whether front wheel brakes can be fitted unconnected to our open demonstration car 107-MG."
