generator are receiving attention. There would appear no reason why these should give us any anxiety.
(4) There is a bad oil leak from the rear bearing on the crankshaft. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} points out that the new design does not provide such good oil retaining arrangements as on the present Phantom. This is receiving immediate attention.
(5) The fabric coupling between the engine and gearbox has failed on 16-EX car. This coupling had a new method of gripping the fabric which has not proved successful. As we are finding on the present standard Phantoms that the fabric couplings are giving us considerable trouble, DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} is giving us a temporary scheme to try a solid coupling to see whether we can find any disadvantage.

All the troubles which have cropped up on the SS.{S. Smith} are being dealt with immediately and we anticipate now that we have more cars running we shall be able to accelerate the experimental tests.

Comparing the position of the SS.{S. Smith} today with any of the previous changes we have made, such as to the Phantom, and 4-wheel brakes, we are in an exceptionally good position, and we shall have ample time to overcome all the troubles which we have any others which we anticipate will arise before these cars get into customers hands.

Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}
