X.4054 - RE STANDARDISATION OF 40/50 H.P. CONDENSER WITH NEW TYPE EARTHING CONNECTION. X.4286 Referring to the model which you brought to West WitteringHenry Royce's home town, Mr. Royce has already approved of the alteration to the construction of the condenser for providing an earth connection. There remains the question of the stud fixing. The short studs and long nuts shewn on the model were designed at Derby with a view to preventing damage to the mica plates. Mr. Royce wishes this object to be accomplished, however, by making the last and outer-most plate of the condenser block a piece of bakelite micarta fitting more closely round the studs than the mica plates. The studs themselves he wishes to be made from plain pieces of screwed rod without hexagons on them. It would be necessary to machine these pieces of rod down to the smaller diameter required for the outer ends. The nuts then would be just of the simple form we have always used with the single end on for tightening. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
