Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} c. to SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} X5380 DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}4/M22.8.28. RE. INDIA 3. X.5770 X.5380 In view of experiments which you have made from time to time, which shew that the direct vertical deflection of the individual side channel of the '20' is very small over the tie-bar portion, we wish to omit the bars for the present from India 3. They were first added to the '20' on 5G2. when scuttle and dash movement was great, and tests later shewed that they had little effect - see F.52766. The cross in the frame we believe to be the real cure for the frames' max. and most dangerous deflection, and to compensate for the added weight of the cross we wish to delete the tie bars.
