Commdr. Matravers,
The Adamant Engineering Co.Ltd.,
Dallow Road,
Luton,

Dear Commdr. Matravers,

We thank you for the Vauxhall type 1.7/16 gear which we have received and is now halfway on to a chassis.

We wish to use on an experimental chassis a cam and roller similar to the small type to your M.22166/8, which you supplied to us recently, but with a different lead. The new lead which we require is 0.600" which according to our calculations gives 3.50 turns for 84° rockershaft movement.

Will you please make three cams and one roller with this new lead as soon as possible. All particulars other than the lead should be exactly as on your M.22166/8, and the roller should have inside contact. We should be glad if you would send us prints of these parts as soon as you have completed the drawings, so that we can make our rockershaft to suit.

When you were last in Derby you mentioned that you did not think you would agree to have the rollers made entirely by a ball bearing manufacturer. We would like to know whether, in the event of our finding rollers made in this way satisfactory on 20,000 Miles Continental test, you would be of the same opinion.

Our Order Office will send you an official order for the 1.7/16 gear and for the 3 cams and one roller mentioned above.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED.
