E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} W. Hives Esq.,
c/o Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd.,
Derby.

My dear Hives,

Having been away ill for a week, I have only just received your letter of the 15th instant, from which I am glad to note that my form of automatic tappet is now behaving itself on your single cylinder unit.

As soon as you are ready, I should very much like to have come up to Derby for a run on the car you are now fitting up with a complete set of these tappets.

As a matter of fact, I shall probably be outside Nottingham this week-end, but I expect Monday the 26th instant will probably be too soon for you?

In any case, I shall look forward to hearing from you again as to when you will be ready.

I note that you expect to be at Napiers this morning, and I am trying to arrange to run down there in the hopes of catching you, but, officially, I am not supposed to be back at work.

Kindest regards,

Yours sincerely,

Frank B. Halford
