For the attention of Mr.Martin-Hurst.

Dear Sirs,

We thank you for your two letters of the 11th. and 13th. inst., but regret that the situation has rather changed. Examination of the thermostats in two of our cars which have been running for a considerable periods - 2000 - 3000 miles - shows that the bellows bottom plate and supporting frame has collapsed under the water pressure as shown by the sample which we are today returning to you.

We are therefore (a) going to increase the bypass size to reduce the water pressure of we can get away without materially lowering our cooling margin - this is a temporary measure. (b) Reverting to the thermostatically controlled large bypass scheme.

Another alternative of course is that of strengthening up the bellows unit, however, this means departing still further from your standard article and may bring other troubles in its turn.

The writer will be in your neighbourhood on Tuesday next and also at the end of the week,-unless he hears otherwise from you he will call on Tuesday some time after 3.0 p.m. to discuss this matter. Should this not be convenient perhaps we can arrange a meeting on Thursday or Friday.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
