PHANTOM CHASSIS. SPECIAL MAGNESIUM PISTONS.
---------------------------------------

As the result of our discussion of the subject of pistons with the two representatives, Mr.Mitchell and Mr.J.Coventry, the former from The British Maxium Company, the latter from The Magnesium Company Ltd, Point Pleasant, Wandsworth, S.W.18, the following decisions were made:-

1. We would accept the order for forged pistons which we have already placed, with an increase in thickness on the inside of the skirt of .100", and further, the alloy would be 4% copper, 2% aluminium, 1% manganese, balance magnesium.
These pistons are to be delivered as soon as possible. Certain experiments are then to be carried out in the Experimental Dept. before running the pistons, in order to arrive at a minimum thickness of skirt likely to stand up under working conditions.
We have ordered 14 pistons which would allow us two pistons to cover the possibilities of scrap and experimenting with thickness of skirt.

2. We wish to place an order with The Magnesium Company Ltd, Point Pleasant, Wandsworth, London S.W.18, for 15 pistons made in their special cast alloy. This piston is not to be of the pedestal type, similar to those referred to above, but is to be produced from the wood patterns and core boxes which exist for the piston at present standard. Piece No.E.73376. The piston is to be sand cast, however, except that a metal chill will be used to form the external diameter.

Will you kindly arrange to pass on this information to the people concerned, and urge them for earliest possible deliveries.

We are particularly interested in getting the second set of cast pistons in as early as possible, as we are inclined to think that they represent the best proposal.
