Dear Sirs, for attention of Mr.Royce With reference to your Replacement O {Mr Oldham} /No.7659 in respect to Venetian Cream dial Speedometer - 800 r.p.m. We find there are four coils of the Spring over the Crossing and submit that with proper treatment of the instrument, it is impossible for such a thing to happen. These particular instruments were sent to you without being sealed or fastened down in any way and with anyone else but yourselves we would say they had been tampered with. As this could not possibly take place at your premises, we can only attribute it to a very heavy blow. In any case such a thing does not happen to the ordinary instruments sent to you. We are returning the Speedometer tomorrow, and shall be glad if you will please examine it upon receipt, as we have no means of preventing such trouble with an open instrument.
