SPECIFICATION NO. ELC.8/a.{Mr Adams}

SPECIFICATION OF INSPECTION, ADJUSTMENT AND TEST OF R.R.
FOOT OPERATED HEADLAMP SWITCH DB.{Donald Bastow - Suspensions}1121

(1) All parts subject to friction should be well greased:-
(a) The surface that slides into the knob on depression.
(b) The push rod sliding surface.
(c) The laminated contacts and the rotating blades.
(d) The toggle wheel.

Some thin oil should be supplied to the pivot of the rachet.

(2) Inspection should be made that the bakelite roller is well in contact with the face of the end of the operating plunger in the off position.

(3) It should be ascertained, by trial that the mechanical operation is smooth and correct. Also that sufficient pressure is applied at the contacts, as indicated by the 'lift' of the laminated contacts on entry of the rotating blades.

(4) Check the insulation, by applying an alternating voltage of 200, through a lamp, first between the knob and each of the three terminals, and then between the middle terminal and each insulated terminal in turn, with the contacts in the 'off' position. It should also be confirmed that operation of the switch alternately makes and breaks the lamp circuit.
