contd:- -3- OUR COMMENTS. similar construction which are giving similar trouble. The Gwynne body fitted to the car is unsatisfactory in several respects It is too narrow in front seats to be comfortable and the front seat passenger is pressed up against the door which is dangerous as if the door opened the passenger would almost certainly fall out if the car was travelling fast. The hood has been a nuisance the whole time as it balloons with the wind and at times we have had to accommodate our speed to suit the hood so as not to tear it off. The clips fitted to attach the side of the hood to the metal framework are quite useless for the purpose and appear to me to be put on upside-down. The frame above the near side rear window has broken at the point where the hood framework is pivoted and we have had to fix it with wire. We have also had to put strings over the top of the hood to hold it down. The framework of the hood is much too light also the metal window frames. They may stand up in England, but they will not stand the racketing of these roads. The mechanism for raising and holding the front windows is also poor. It is inconvenient to operate and also will not keep fixed unless tightened up excessively. This point we have reported separately to Bp. and BV. I am afraid the petrol consumption is going to be too high. It is now about 16 or 17 M.P.G. I consider that a lot of work has got to be put in to get the carburetter better as regards low speed power and consumption. I believe the results are worse with French petrol than with our own petrol. We hope to receive more definite information on this point from Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} We also hope to convey to him improvements which could be affected with the carburetter as we have now heard from him that the carburation on his car is now excellent and he is reporting fully. ************************** | ||
