Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} Sft{Mr Swift} c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. BY/HEB.{H. Biraben} c. BY/NWL. c. ROY.{Sir Henry Royce} XS410 BY14/G.12.11.28. ROAD SPRINGS. Referring to By14/G.2.11.28. and BY5/G.5.11.28. carrying the test period further has demonstrated that the Lanoline lubricant does not prevent squeaking occurring, as the surfaces are still inadequate for the load at the points where the springs come into actual load bearing contact. In view of this therefore, please note that my two memos quoted above are cancelled, so far as representing the condition in which the springs are to be delivered is concerned. We shall still fit the grease proof paper and the adhesive tape in the Works to cover the testing period, but at the end of the testing period, before the cars are delivered the paper will be removed from the springs, which will then be liberally treated with oil and fitted with our gaiter with the present standard lubricators in position.
