Re: Marles Steering Gear.

The Marles Steering Gear off the Bumper Chassis has been stripped for examination, and its condition found to be as follows:-

Steering Box
Coupling flange cracked where pegged and shewing signs of breaking away at brazing.

Half-Spherical Bearings
One broken and remaining 3 cracked.

Ball Bearings
Worn on track and loose in housings.
Bottom bearing loose on shaft.

Remaining parts are in good condition.

The wearing surfaces of the worm have been measured up, but it is not possible to estimate the amount of wear since no measurements were made prior to test.

Table Data:
Row A: .4415, .439, .439
Row B: .4393, .4394, .4398
Row C: .4395, .4395, .4398

Mating Piece measures .430" over sphericals.
