Dear Sirs, We have to thank you for your letter of 27th June - reference Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}/9/MH.{M. Huckerby} We are interested to learn that you were supplied with a special size of Pilote tyre - the 225 x 400. This is not at present for sale in the English market. If you have an unused tyre we would like to borrow it along with tube and rim to fit, otherwise we shall have to get our Export people to purchase one on the Continent. We think that the next things to do in regard to cornering power are firstly to consider carefully the Pilote dimensions and construction in relation to your results with this tyre and secondly, to make skid pan trials with still more reinforced beads. We have just instructed our production department to make experimental tyres with a number of different bead constructions in order that we can determine which would be most promising for further test. We have today despatched to Mr. I.M. Waller, Hotel de France, Chateauroux, Indre, France, the following tyres:- 6 - 6.50/16 Narrow Groove Tread Thickness ... .684" 6 - " " " " ... .608" 6 - " " " " ... .566" 12 - 7.00/16 Tyres - Narrow Groove, from the modified mould. With each tyre we have sent a tube. We would draw your attention to the fact that of the 7.00/16 tyres despatched, those with serial numbers 2325, 2337, 4368 and 4531 are outside our normal tolerance for balance and should preferably be fitted to rear wheels. We would like you to send us one sample of each of the types of wheel to which you propose to fit our tyres during the 1939-40 season, so that we can check the fitting dimensions, dimensions of rim tapes etc. Yours faithfully, THE AVON INDIA RUBBER COMPANY LIMITED.
