HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/AJL1/LG27.5.27. TYRE PUMPS. We give below particulars of four different types of tyre pump. The Kismet is at present supplied on both our chassis as standard equipment. the Dunlop pump was supplied prior to the Kismet and the two Nesthill pumps - No.7 'Compact' and No.10 'Major' were sent to us by the makers (Messrs. E.H.Hill Ltd., Sheffield) for our criticism. As a test of the relative efficiency of the pumps a 33 X 6.75" Dunlop balloon tyre was inflated to 45 lbs/sq.in. pressure by each pump and the number of strokes of the pump required to do this was recorded. | Name of pump. | Strokes to inflate tyre to 45 lbs. | Weight lbs.ozs. | Max. height folded. | Max. length folded. | Max. width folded. | Price. | |----------------|------------------------------------|-----------------|---------------------|---------------------|--------------------|---------| | Kismet. | 675 | 7 - 10 | 4.6" | 13" | 5.1" | 17/10d | | Dunlop. | 500 | 9 - 0 | 5.25" | 15.6" | 6" | 5/- | | No.7. Compact. | 525 | 7 - 12 | 2.5" | 16.5" | 4" | 14/- | | No.10 Major. | 430 | 7 - 12 | 4.25" | 15.5" | 5" | 19/- | The Nesthill No.10. Major pump is the most efficient while the Kismet (present standard) is the least. No.7 Compact pump is by far the easiest to stow away in a car toolbox being only 2.5" high - the height of the pump when closed is usually the greatest drawback as regards this point - the length, within limits, being of secondary importance. The efficiency of the pump is good when compared with the Kismet and the finish is definitely superior. The price quoted is for orders of 100 and could probably be reduced for larger orders. The saving expressed as a percentage is very appreciable. The specimen pump supplied to us was fitted with a pressure gauge; this fitting is not included for the 14/- quoted and would not be required for our use. We consider this pump to be a very definite improvement in every way upon the present Kismet Junior pump, and recommend that it be supplied with our chassis subject to the approval of Sales Dept.
