X.4008 AUTO SWITCH AND GREEN LAMP SWITCHES X.4040

REMOVED FROM CARS.

Several switch units now in the laboratory after running on cars, have been tested in order to check the constancy of the setting, with results as follows :-

AUTO SWITCH B. FROM 8-EX.

When last tested on the road 13.7.28, was found to operate at 15.0 volts, and to return at 13.0 volts. On the bench the figures are now 15.0 volts and 12.5 volts respectively. The switch ran 10,000 miles in its final form on the car giving quite satisfactory results. It is of the separate unit type made from cut-out parts and mounted on ebonite.

Following are the results obtained on Green Lamp Units, all of which are of the balanced armature type mounted on the long distribution board. Readings taken after warming up as when setting originally. Figures are for contacts closing.

S.S.1. from 18-EX.

Original setting (done in position on car) approximately 16.5 volts. Ran 18,000 miles. Present setting 17.5 volts.

S.S.2. from 19-EX.

Original setting 16.8 volts. Ran small mileage, but was disconnected owing to polarity reversal effects taking place on the dynamo. Present setting 17.3 volts.

S.S.4. from 22-EX.

Original setting 16.9 volts. Ran small mileage, disconnected as above for S.S.2. Present setting 17.6 volts.
