As you are possibly aware, a great deal of trouble has been experienced with regard to wear on the bronze magneto drive skew gear on the Merlin. These are now being run in prior to assembly of the engine on a machine with what is known as "Oil Dag." With your experience of the various E.P. oils, what type would you recommend for this operation? I vaguely remember Harry Grylls trying a number of oils for a similar purpose. i.e. to put an anti-wear surface on the teeth, The running in is being done on a machine, but I consider it would be more beneficial to run in the pair of gears in the assembled position on the wheelcase.
