REPORT ON 'PYNOL' FUEL.

Handwritten: X1555 (crossed out) X985

This fuel was submitted to us by the Oil Supply Corporation, 54A, Parliament Street, London, S.W.1. , on the recommendation of Lord Wargrave.

We attach herewith results of tests. The total amount of fuel we had for the test was 10 gallons which we divided between bench tests and road tests. We have not, therefore, been able to check the results.

From the particulars we have received, it appears to be a mixture of petrol and gas oil which has been specially blended so that it does not separate. It has been developed by the Germans.

The distillation curve attached, shows the fuel contains very heavy fractions.

Tests on the road and on the bench show that the fuel is worse for distribution than with ordinary petrol but it is not so bad as we should expect, from the distillation figures. on the 40/50 HP. car with the latest exhaust heated throttle, we can use this fuel with no serious disadvantage until we pull full throttle at 10 m.p.h. or below. Under those conditions we get bad loading up and it is definitely worse than with petrol.

Comparative consumption tests taken with a 40/50 car on the road, same speeds and the same carburetter setting, we get a better consumption with 'Pynol' than with petrol.

This, we consider is due to the fact that owing to the 'Pynol' being heavy (no adjustment was made to the contd:-
