1300 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer}4/AP. August 14th 1937 The Adamant Engineering Co.Ltd., Dallow Road, LUTON. For the attention of Commdr. Matravers. Dear Sirs, We wish to try experimentally one of our small (1.500) steering gears with a lower ratio than we have at present. Will you please design for us a cam and roller similar to your M.22517 and M.22168 but to give approximately 4.10 turns of the wheel for 84° ofrockershaft movement. We should be glad if you would also investigate the thickness of the worm thread in the full lock position as we think this may be rather thin, so that it might be necessary to make the threaded portion of the cam as long as possible and of max. permissible dia. at the ends. Will you please send us prints when these are available and if the cam is satisfactory on paper, make two cams. We will send you an official order for the cams as soon as we hear that you are proceeding with the manufacture. Yours faithfully, For Rolls-Royce Limited. | ||
