At 4.20 p.m. today I received from Chichester two telegrams, as follows:-

1st telegram:-

"DECIDED ADOPT TWO STANDARDS, ENGLISH 12 1/2 PER CENT "STIFFER, CONTINENTAL 20 PER CENT STIFFER, NUMBER OF "PLATES MINIMUM TEN stop WOODHEAD CLIP ESSENTIAL stop "HIVES MUST NOT DESPATCH PRESENT SPRINGS".

2nd telegram:-

"R.{Sir Henry Royce} CONSIDERS NUMBER OF PLATES INSUFFICIENT TO INSURE "BEST RESULTS stop MUST DO OUR BEST TO GET FIRTHS AND "WOODHEADS TO AGREE - BAILEY".

You will note the first telegram is not signed, but the second is signed by By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer}

I shall get into communication with Firths as early as possible tomorrow (Friday), but I do not think that anything can be done until after the visit of Mr.J.Wortley Fawcett to these Works on Tuesday next, 16th inst.
