To BJ. from R.{Sir Henry Royce} c. to CJ. C. c. to Lhs.{Lord Herbert Scott} PN.{Mr Northey} c. to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} Y3730 R9/117.2.22. RE. MR. EVERNDEN. X.1775. X.3730 Replying to your BJ10/H16.2.22., having reference to Mr. Evernden, naturally I do not wish him to take any responsibility as regards the designs of body. I suggested Mr. Evernden should be a connecting link to avoid errors or misunderstanding between the designing department, and our coachbuilding-supervisors, that is to say, with a view to avoiding some of the errors which have lately arisen, in connection with the Goshawk body. It would refer to the position of seat, elbow room, clearances, height of back seat, convenience of pedals, instrument board work, clearances of splashers, room for shock absorbers, etc., in which case the drawing could be sent to Mr. Day for approval, and in certain cases Mr. Evernden would make a journey to London to discuss the criticisms which will naturally be forthcoming. I would like it to be clearly understood that we do not attempt, and have no intention of attempting, to design bodies, the construction of which we have not sufficiently studied, and have no intention of doing so at present even if we had the ability.
