To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from My/JW. c. Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} My/JW/H1/M9.8.22./139A. X.4432- 40/50 H.P. CHASSIS VALVES AND VALVE GUIDES We return herewith copy of above standardisation sheet with cost for new production filled in, from which it will be seen there will be an increase in Cost of £1.5.6 per chassis. This figure is based on the valve guide being made as a Die Casting - and not from Bar Material. Regarding repairs. Should this scheme be adopted, then when cars on which the modification has been incorporated come in for repairs (assuming of course that the valves are worn) there would be a saving in cost on repair bills as compared with the present practice of supplying and fitting new valves, of £1.19.10. per chassis, provided it was found necessary to dismantle the engine for reasons other than the valves being worn. Should it be found necessary to replace guides and re-grind valves on a car which did not require engine dismantling except for this purpose, we understand the resultant cost would be in excess of the present practice of supplying and fitting new valves, due to the fact that it is not possible to fit the Guides without first dismantling the engine - vide the Repair Department.
