SHOCK-ABSORBERS - 20 H.P.
I am quite convinced that the rear Shock-Absorbers on the 20 H.P. chassis will be the cause of no end of unnecessary criticisms in view of their present setting.
The Salamanca chassis which I tested yesterday, No. 4.1.G.6., appeared to have no Shock-Absorbers at all on the rear judging by their effect.
These similar fittings on our Trials Landaulet are so ineffective in preventing the car swinging and moving too easily, that I had them dis-connected and their loading tested.
I also had the Shock-Absorbers on the Hooper Open 20 H.P. Touring Car dis-connected and tested, and in neither case did I find that the setting differed markedly from the standard, so far considered right and proper.
It would appear then that our standard requires considerable modification before the Shock-Absorbers can be really effective in preventing swinging over and too much movement of the bodies on the 20 H.P. chassis.
I am aware that it is desired to keep the loading as low as possible in order to prevent undue wear and tear of the pivots, but I fear we have not yet achieved the best arrangement. It is most unfortunate that we are not able to adjust the loading of the Shock-Absorbers at all.
