The mistake, I think, arose in your original memo referring to Wednesday 12th instant and Friday 14th. Of course, now I realise that this was a typing error, but at the time I received it, I had no means of checking the information and although my impression had been that the race was not coming on so soon, it simply did not occur to me that there might have been a mistake in the date in your memo. I have not yet seen my brother since my return from France a few days ago, but I understand that he is going over for the races and will doubtless have a party there, to which, I am sure, you would be very welcome if you care to join them. I am more than doubtful whether I shall be able to go myself as I have only just returned from a holiday. We are particularly busy in this department just at the moment and the date of the races will come within the period when Harcombe will be away on holiday, and on the top of all this my work with the Company is such that I might have some difficulty in getting H and the other authorities to regard the visit as useful work experience. I believe, however, only those who are in constant touch with the young people of to-day realise how interested they are in speed, and how important it is to be able to talk to them about it if you are anxious to impress them with the reliability of your judgment of motor cars. I was very interested in what you told me about the Essex Terraplane. Some time when we next meet I should like to know what you think of the Alfa Romeo. I have not been on one yet. With kind regards, Yours sincerely, Stewart Bent | ||
