Re detachable wheels.

With reference to the attached memorandum TBB2/L1212, I think that neither what Lord Herbert Scott thinks nor what Mr Barrington writes is quite correct.

I think there is a very large number of first class makers outside England who do not fit detachable wheels as standard.

We are in the position that we fit any amount of these without any further obstruction than the stipulation that the makers of the wheels shall take the responsibility for them. I think it would be most unwise to depart from this. They have been a source of enormous expense and trouble to the purchasers, and I see no reason why they will not continue to give at least some trouble.

I understand we have always recommended our purchasers to have detachable rims - Michelin pattern at present we think the best. (I think most of the trouble of our position would cease if we made standard what we think best.)

These rims are very much easier to carry and they are much less likely to give trouble than detachable wheels.

With reference to our making a detachable wheel, I am afraid that we should not succeed much better than other makers. If we did not succeed it would be a great
